Michael K. Lewis, Associate Director

Mr. Lewis joined the Conference in 2011.  In 2014 he was appointed to the VIrginia Disability Commission by Delegate William Howell, Speaker of the House of Delegates.

Before joining the Conference, he worked as a research assistant and committee clerk for the North Carolina General Assembly, where his duties included policy research and analysis for the Senate Judiciary I Committee and preparing bills for floor votes by the full Senate.

In 2009 he received his Bachelor of Science in public health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Gillings School of Global Public Health.

During his university years he held a variety of government- and regulatory-related internships, including a stint with North Carolina’s then-U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole (R). Also while at UNC, Mr. Lewis, who grew up in Chapel Hill but was born in Boston, was involved in leadership roles at the Newman Catholic Student Center Parish. He taught religious education until recently.

“I have a passion for policy making and the Catholic Church,’’ Mr. Lewis said. “This is a great way to blend both passions and be an advocate for those in need.”

He lives in the suburbs of RIchmond with his wife and son.
