Welcome from Virginia Bishops
On behalf of Virginia's two Catholic dioceses, we welcome you to the website of the Virginia Catholic Conference. In December of 2004, we formed the Conference to represent the dioceses of Arlington and Richmond in matters of governmental policy, and to help Catholics throughout Virginia share a unified faith perspective with the lawmakers who serve them in Richmond and Washington. Through lobbying, stimulating grassroots advocacy, and helping members of our dioceses connect the principles of their faith to critical policy issues, the Conference brings our Church's consistent moral framework and compelling lived experience to the halls of government.
We commend to you our Conference as an indispensable resource for your own advocacy. Participating in the political process, and thereby helping to create a more just society, is an essential part of what it means to be a follower of Christ in our Commonwealth today. When we as Catholics fulfill our civic responsibilities, we provide powerful witness to the inestimable value of all human life and the immeasurable dignity of every person. Through activities organized by the Conference, members of our two dioceses can become more effective witnesses to the Gospel of Life, more faithful and faith-filled citizens, and more aware of the challenges and opportunities facing the poorest and most vulnerable in Virginia.
